An icon and a cypher: Druskan

Each of the Moth Plateau novellas has a different point of view character. That does mean that to a certain extent you can jump in at any point in the series (though whatever order you choose for 1-3, I'd recommend reading those before 4).

I'll add posts introducing each of those characters in the months ahead, starting with our star of Riding the Moth Plateau, Druskan.

Drusk is a stereotype--by choice. He knows that his cowboy hat and long duster are what people picture when they think of the cowboys of the Moth Plateau, so he goes out of his way to play to that image. Even his three moth-hunting hawks are the stereotype of the plateau cowpoke, pushed to excess.

And yet, he's not a cowboy but a cattle agent, working for the much despised corporation that has far too much control over the lives of everyone on the plateau.

This dichotomy makes him a good intro to the series, a good way to discover what the Moth Plateau is, both in reality and in the common imagination. Drusk has seen it all, knows more about the land than most...and yet still learns that in the end he knows nothing.
